Dedra Smith

2nd Grade Teacher.

Dedra holds both bachelor's and master’s degrees in education, focused on reading instruction, from Baylor University. She has taught in a full-time Christian school, public schools, hybrid classical Christian schools, and homeschooled for the last 21 years. For the last seven years, Dedra has been on a journey to understand the role of classical Christian education in educating and discipling the next generation of Christians to know God/Jesus deeply and personally and passionately make Him known. She has fallen in love with the scholé method, the restful leading of students to Truth, goodness, and beauty, and a lifetime of joyful learning. She is an extrovert who loves building relationships and serving others, so teaching is a calling well-suited to her. She has been married to her husband, Michael, for 16 years, has two wonderful boys, Robbie (7th grade) and Zach (4th grade), who both attend HHCA, and a mini Australian shepherd named Paloma. In addition to her role as second grade teacher at HHCA, she is also the interim director of an apartment ministry and is involved in children’s ministry at her church. In her free time, she loves to travel, read, and have game nights with her family and friends.
